The Rose
So often abused by the pens of
poets who find a metaphor and seek
to claim it, tame
it, mold it into
something it is not
but they wish it was and
shield it from the world's
unworthy gaze
failing themselves to see that
by hiding it away within the deep
recesses of their minds
they have dulled its thorns and hues and
stripped the rose of all potency
robbed it of purpose by plucking its
petals and crushing them
between their fingers
and all this just so
they can write hypocrisy.
