The Ocean
I thought your love was big.
You baked me a mango cake for my birthday,
And your smile, your hugs, always made my day.
I thought your love was big,
Bigger than my appetite.
I thought your love was big.
Keeping me warm when the Winter breeze swallowed me whole,
Staying up late with me when I needed you most.
I thought your love was big,
Bigger than my blanket.
I thought your love was big.
Humming me a lullaby when the thunderstorms haunted me,
Keeping me company when I said I didn’t want you to leave.
I thought your love was big,
Bigger than the cradle.
I thought your love was big.
Telling me lies perhaps for a good cause,
Loving my strengths and trying to accept my flaws.
I thought your love was big,
Bigger than the mirror on the wall.
I thought your love was big,
Until I see the vast ocean
Letting boats float on it but never complains,
Giving sea creatures a place to live unconditionally,
Keeping the blueness for us to always adore.
The ocean is bigger.
