I wasn’t beautiful anymore.
Shaking hands gripped His tee shirt,
Soaked in bitter sweat.
I was strong--
I thought.
Inside, I died. Things weren’t the same.
My heart was so soft,
So swollen inside my chest;
Each vain screamed your name,
And I hated that feeling.
Things weren’t the same;
Not like they used to be.
His mouth against my cheek smelt like open ocean;
Salt water from the sea.
In His eyes, green arctic water winked.
He was drowning;
And brown liquor danced on His tongue,
Wisped across my skin, carried on the backs of
Hurtful words.
I felt like suffocating.
I felt like I was suffocating
Him.
