Honor
I see we still have much to learn;
-for it is one thing to see, to know, to understand
flashes of human emotion.
this thing called empathy, a precious moment when
for one moment
we are connected in a single flash of shared emotion
of understanding.
darling, I am glad you are venturing out of
your make-shift armor of intelligent sounding garble
to join the world of emotions, and relationships, and true human contact
and sweetheart, I’ll tell you something - it’s
complicated.
you’re a sweet boy.
your intentions are good, they’re sweet, they’re innocent
but there is this concept called honor.
a duty to do what’s right.
in the face of terrifying dragons - you save the princess
in the face you ogres - you free the villagers
if killing a King means becoming one - you pledge him your undying loyalty.
honor.
-you uphold your word. your commitments.
every single day, every single second, is a constant, constant struggle to to the right thing, in the face of any danger, in the face of any dragon, you do the right thing. always and without fail.
you’re a sweet boy.
but you still have a long way to go before you’re
an honorable man.
perhaps you still have much to learn.
but you do not
under any circumstances
delay the truth
delay the good-bye
allow the continuation
of an innocent adoration
because you’re a scared little boy.
hell, I have a tendency to ramble
and to lecture.
if you don’t speak I won’t
slap your sweet face, but
forevermore you will be
just a little bit lower in my esteem
(though not my affection) and
forevermore you will be
just a little bit lower in your esteem
for there is a reason we continue to adore knights-in-shining-armor
they have a sense of honor.
I wish you could see the wondrous glory of a truly honorable man
the light is blinding.
so I don’t care.
I don’t care about your excuses.
I don’t care about your feelings.
you do what’s right.
always.
