Hackberry
The way the droplets
Hang on each Hackberry
Suspended defying gravity
Seeming like a glass bead tree
Is like the way they
Slip off your fingertips
When you're fresh out of the shower
Run, bulge, drip, recoil, run
The way the rain creates
Them but destroys them the same way
Like war builds an economy
And night turns into day
Rain bends laws of physics
Sticks to everything it touches
Holds on with all it's might until
One particle too many, drop.
Rain falling by my window
Distorting my perspective
Taking 10 A.M. and saying
"Slick back your streets, wear grey"
