As I sit here at this table
On this cold winter night
I remember you
Remember all you did for me
Was I ever grateful?
While you were here
I never was
Only when you disappeared
Did I begin to understand everything
Why did you have to go away?
Why couldn't you stay?
So I could repay you.

As I sit here at this table
Over my warm soup cocoa
I remember everything
Your wisdom
Love
And patience
God has opened my eyes
Letting me see how great you were
While you were here
I never returned the favor
So now I want to tell you
Thank you so much
Grandma.

I wrote this piece on my grandmother's anniversary of her death. I actually got pretty emotional before and then the poem snapped into my mind.
