Would You Think of Me?
If I died tomorrow, so innocent and young,
What would you do?
Would you keep the things you borrowed
Or return them when they're due?
Would you rifle through my pictures
Or set them all on fire?
Would you cry or would you yell?
And when the wind blew through the bells,
Would you think of me?
My memories so close but me so far away,
Would it be hard to go about your day?
Would my name still linger in your mind,
Baring down on you, getting heavier with time?
Would you think of me every day?
Would you know I didn't want to end that way?
Would you feel guilty, would you feel like he**?
And when the wind blew through the bells,
Would you think of me?
Maybe it'd be easier to forget, maybe the pain would be too much,
But I wouldn't easily go away.
Much like slush on a rainy winter day;
If you tried to ignore me, things would get messy.
To my funeral, would you do casual or dressy?
Would you speak on my behalf?
Would you make people smile and laugh?
Or would you accidentally make them cry?
Would the walls turn on you and create your own personal cell?
And when the wind blew through the bells,
Would you think of me?
You'd get older, you'd finish growing up,
You'd turn twenty-one and pour beer or vodka into your cup.
Life and time would carry on,
But I'd still be sixteen; I'd still be gone.
Five years down the road; you'd be so grown,
Would you still remember me?
Would you still dream of me at night?
Would my eyes still plague your mind?
Would you wonder what I'd be like?
Would you pray I was alright?
Would you tear up when you caught a smell of my favorite body gel?
And when the wind blew through the bells,
Would you think of me?
In the blink of an eye you'd be thirty-nine
With a kid and a wife,
Do you think you'd name her after me?
Would you tell her stories of us as kids?
Would she know me as her dead aunt?
Would your wife know you were still a little in love with your dead best friend?
Would you still have some of my things?
Would you still laugh like an idiot when someone said: "Bling-bling?"
Would you sing your daughter my version of "Farmer In The Dell?"
And when the wind blew through the bells,
Would you think of me?
When you're laying on your death-bed,
What would be running through your head?
Would your wife five kids and grand-kid still be by your side?
Or would some of them have come over to mine?
Would you look back on your life
And wonder what things would have been like with me by your side?
I hope it was a good life...
Would you have felt me watching out for you
All the way through?
Would you still remember all the fun we had?
Would you still remember all the stupid promises and feelings, both good and bad?
And when the wind blew through the bells one final time just for you,
Would you think of me?
Because I'd think of you...
