The Red Cloth
I hung there for what felt like centuries,
Shoved in a cramped closet,
One that was only used for big,
Happy days,
Like that day, long ago,
No one would’ve forgotten that festive evening,
For generations, people would only talk,
of that life-changing celebration,
But the highlight of it all, was,
the diamond,
hidden in a red cloth,
waiting to be given to the girl,
across the room,
drinking champagne,
unaware of what was coming...
