"Boldness be my friend." -Shakespeare

He won’t see me go
into high school.
He won’t wait up
'til 10 o’clock
for me to come home.
He won’t have conniption
because I bought a
500$ prom dress.
He won’t cheer for
me when I get my diploma.
He won’t hug me and tell
me he’s proud of me
for getting into Yale.
He won’t walk me
down the aisle.
He won’t hold my
hand when the contractions
are getting worse.
He won’t see his
grandkids grow up.
He won’t be there
when I need him the most.

They say you don’t
know how strong you
are ''till being strong
is your only option.

Well, I’m tired of
wearing the fake smile.
I’m tired of being strong.
I’m tired of surviving
the day, instead of enjoying it.
I’m tired of waking
up and not knowing if he did.
I’m tired of all the
worrying and the what-ifs.
I’m tired of not
knowing if I’m gonna
get called from school one
day and my mom tells
me the bad news.
I’m tired of getting a
bad feeling every time my
mom says "Come here,
we gotta talk."
I’m tired of the tears.
I'm tired of the sleepless nights.
I’m tired of the pain.
I just want my dad.
MY dad.
Not the one
who says
"Yeah, I’m fine.
Don’t worry about me."

The author's comments:
I wrote this about my dad, because I needed to vent and it seems like I can't tell anyone. He's dying and I know I can't do anything. It just makes it worse.

I'm glad it does.. I write because it helps me and if I can write well enough, then I want to help others, too. And yes, that quote couldn't be more true. Everyone deserves a reason to live and have a life well-meant, so if you can reach it, go for it.

I'm sorry. I really am, because having a Dad like mine is truly an amazing experience. Just think of it this way: He wasn't your Dad. He was you FATHER. The difference is that a Dad loves. A Father is just..there. Thank you So much for commenting. I appreciate it. (: And again; I'm sorry.

"To err is human."

This made me cry. The way you describe it it makes us all fear the same things, things that have never passed through the abyss of our minds. Thank you for writing this. It helps me appreciate things a lot more. I hope you get through this (: We're here for you. Words will never fail you. "Speak you mind, even if you voice shakes"

Courage is not the absence of fear, rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear; the brave may not live forever but the cautious don't live at all!

Good job...........Keep writing! May God bless you!

I very much agree with the other comments...the realism you write of is so genuine, and the final lines (the quote) finished the poem perfectly. If you have a chance, I'd love it if you could look at my work (I only have one poem published...two are pending).

WOW. This is really incredible. Hope that your dad gets better.
