What ever happened
To the smiling boy
Full of joy
Full of hope
Full of dreams
I don't see him there anymore
All I see is someone scared
He's turned hard
He's turned cold
He's turned hopeless
Wishing he could disappear
On the edge,
Ready to jump
He feels alone
He feels scared
He feels helpless
What is there left to do?
Running out of options
The pain was just too much
Crushing him
Pounding him
Destroying him
With every passing day
Someone was still out there
Someone still cared
Just a little more searching
And he would have remembered me
That I still care
I know that he matters
I know that he had a story to tell
But now it's too late
He's gone
I look around
And it really sinks in
The people dressed in black
Girls from school crying into tissues
Solemn men bringing in more chairs
I know that the smiling boy
That I loved so much
Isn't here anymore
All of that joy
All of that hope
All of those dreams
All of that possibility
Vanished
When he pulled that fatal trigger
