Dear Dory
You and I are sitting alone on the pier
The stubborn tide keeps reaching for us
No matter how many times the dock pushes it away
I skip a stone
Your heart skips a beat
I feel the soft wood beneath my bare feet
I am in awe of the fragments of your translucent soul
Bits and pieces of a broken whole
Smashed shards that pierce yards beneath your skin
And cause bitter drops of burgundy to burst forth from your veins
I watch as the rubicund river glides across your arms almost effortlessly
And I can see an undeniable reflection of me
I can see who you are and who you want to be
And you’ll get there I have no doubt that you will
Because I know you and I know the power of your will
Just keep swimming
Even if the frigid water floods your lungs
And numbs your limbs
Don’t consider giving in
Just keep swimming
The fire inside of you will keep you warm
It will paint the sky different hues of orange
Soft embers will help you remember
And one cold morning as the sun is rising in the middle of December
Your lips will kiss the shore
