I Got My Boombox
Well, I guess I got my boombox
I guess I got my love
I guess I not ought to wonder
what else is in a hug;
I guess I got my secrets
I guess I got my puns
I guess I got my darling babe
I guess I got “the one;”
his fingers trace my lips that move
and curl my scarlet hair
and even as he whispers,
I find I miss your stare;
— shh. —
start again.
Well, I guess I got my boombox
I guess I got my love
I guess I got my fuzzy pillow, and
I guess I got a hug;
I guess I got my sweetheart to
chase nightmares away
I guess I got my baby
I guess I got my way;
we walk along the pathway
hand-in-hand, eye-to-eye
and there I see our houselights
no help for it, I begin to cry
— shh.—
— shh. —
— shh. shh. shh. —
but silencers won’t stop my heart
even as time begins to turn
for memories can fade away
but love never stops its yearn;
and his eyes don’t trace my every move
as yours once did to me
his eyes can’t stop the memories
of you, everyday, my poor eyes see;
Well, I guess I got my happy ending
I guessed, but it wasn’t true
cause in my happy ending
all I ever needed was you.
