Perfect
Who’s to say what is and what’s not,
She may be different, may not own a lot,
Her clothes and her shoes may not come from the mall
She’s had a hard life and a lot of falls
She tries to fit in, be like all of her friends
She’s still not happy at each day’s end
Quiet and awkward she may be,
But that’s not all there is to see
I see her heart and all of her pain
She fears there’s a problem with the way she’s been made
I see that she’s perfect, lovely, a treasure
I see that she’s perfect beyond any measure
Who’s to say what’s good and what’s bad
Is he less of a man when he shows that he’s sad?
He succumbs to the pressure and makes his mistakes
He tries to fit in and sometimes acts fake
He’s frightened and angry so he carries a gun
He needs to be told he’s not alone
Angry and confused he may be
But that’s not all there is to see
I see his sensitivity and intelligence too
He fears there’s a problem with the way he’s been made
I see that he’s perfect, strong, a treasure
I see that he’s perfect beyond any measure
Who’s to say what’s wrong and what’s right
She’s suffered abuse and resorts to fights,
She wears her clothes tight to make people look twice
She doesn’t feel loved and acts out of spite
She tries to change the way that she looks
All that she trusts is beauty over books
Self-conscious, dejected she may be
But that’s not all there is to see
I see that she’s hurt, see her confidence fade,
She fears there’s a problem with the way she’s been made
I see that she’s perfect, beautiful, a treasure
I see that she’s perfect beyond any measure
Who’s to say what will and what won’t
He grew up on the streets, a stereotype
He fights disappointment by avoiding the light
He doesn’t believe that he has a chance
He drops out of school, too tired to fight
He feels like a failure and doesn’t know why
Bruised and beaten his ego might be
But that’s not all there is to see
I see that he’s brilliant and needs to be saved
He fears there’s a problem with the way he’s been made
I see that he’s perfect, smart, a treasure
I see that he’s perfect beyond any measure
I see that we’re perfect, every one of us treasures,
With love and support we will rise together
