Happy and Sad
“I’m so happy,” she shouts,
Jumping up and down, smiling.
You can see the rare twinkle in her blue eyes.
But is she really as happy as she says?
Behind every smile there is sorrow and suffering – family strife, lying friends,
Long hugs being forced to end.
“I’m really upset,” he sobs,
Pulling his face into his hands, frowning.
But you can’t really be at the very top or the very bottom.
Behind every frown, there is some joy – a reached goal from the past, a wish coming true,
Hands reaching out to be held tightly.
This is the unity of Happy and Sad.
