To Be a Child
You’ve told me I’ve a wild
imagination
Too wild for my own good
You’ve told me
there’s no such thing
as too many things that I know
are real
And when you said that, I
wanted to yell, shout
What you said wasn’t right
But I’ve gotta forgive you
’cause you’ve forgotten
as too many people do
what it’s like to drown in the rich summery grass
or swim in the sky
knowing that your imagination knows no bounds
And laugh and cry and smile
for real
not just ’cause you should
You’ve forgotten
how much I want to know
and dream
and see
I wish you could, ’cause
there are too many people like you
who only see
what they think of me
