Leaving the House at 6 am
We leave the thin darkness of the garage
For the thick darkness of the night
That remains, cloaking the world, at this hour,
We drive with stealthy swiftness
On the smooth, empty morning roads
I clutch my travel coffee mug
With half-asleep hands
Every now and then raising it to my mouth
With zombie-like motions.
We are all bound for important things today
But we have to get there first
