The Questions I'll Never Ask
If I could go back
and swallow all of those words,
suck back in all of those tears,
lift my head from my hands,
turn back around
and tell you to stay
would anything have changed?
And do pinky-promises
sealed with a kiss
mean nothing these days?
Your breaths, they're steady
pressed against my chest
I am fighting to remember
while I'm yearning to forget
that field, the joy,
etched in every crevice
of your face
If we had stayed there forever
would this pain then be erased?
And are the words
"I love you"
so easily replaced?
