Anchored
My phone vibrates.
“Hey! Do you want to hang out?”
Floods my screen.
No. No. NO!
My mind shrieks
But I force myself to say sure.
The plans were initiated,
there was no turning back.
This would just be
a normal girl’s night,
right?
It is almost seven
So I start to get ready.
I cake my make up on my face,
torch my hair with the blazing heat
and lastly drench myself in perfume.
I am ready.
I crutch my way to the door
anchored down by my cast.
I dreaded going,
I was only going to be in the way.
Everything was a challenge to me.
Finally,
I’m out the door
and I am sailing free.
Eventually happiness overwhelms me.
We are on our way back
when I realized it couldn’t be this easy.
Nothing was ever that easy for me.
When we got to her house
I soon realized
what was missing?
the Mount Everest of stairs.
My friends leaped ahead
not thinking twice.
I stared hopelessly.
I was anchored into the cold hard ground
of despair.
