The Bear, the Boy, and the Bubble
The glass eyes of the fluffy fabric, cotton stuffed teddy bear
Watching from the shelf as the little boy played
Beanie Babies, Bop It, Buzz Lightyear, Gak, Gameboy Color, G.I. Joes, Nerf Blasters, Roller Blades, Super soakers, Tamagotchi, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
A bubble filled with everything he could want
His mother, ample in weight and love, watches behind eyes of compassion
Eyes having seen divorced parents, Vietnam, the Munich Massacre, the oil crisis
Sinister and sickening affairs in this cruel world
For she had suffered so he would never have to
She would have given him the world if she could
The bloodshot eyes of the teenager, once a little boy
Watching as empty pill bottles fall to the floor
These are his toys now
Coddled and indulged, apathetic and an addict
The teddy bear on the shelf, the only witness
