Jellicoe Road
There once was a girl who thought she was alone
Abandoned by her mother, abandoned by her cadet, abandoned in her own backyard
To protect herself, she pushed everyone away
She was hunted, with no place to go. No solace, no belonging.
There once was a boy who walked to her, arms open
But they shared a past, and the girl never wanted to go back
So she pushed him away, and chose to suffer alone
While always dreaming of being on the shoulders of a giant again, happy
There once was a boy in a tree in a dream
And his presence puzzled the girl, but brought solace nonetheless
And then the girl discovered the boy in the tree was real and linked to her
And she decided that if she wanted more, she had to go and get it, demand it, take hold of it
There once was a girl who belonged to a boy
Together they went on a journey, not a trip, looking for the hidden links to the girl
They found the girl a mother, a father, an aunt, an uncle
And in the aftermath, they found her a place to belong, or long to be
