Armored Princess
DaddY!
I’ve decided I’m not gonna be a Princess this year!
‘Cause that’s what all the other girls are doing-
wearing.
Plus, I was a Princess last year, and this year
I want to be different.
Like, like... uhh, uhm.. um, likelike Kaylee!
From Quest for Camelot! Remem-Remember?
How she fought those bad guys
and saved the other man? But
I want to look like a Knight and maybe
I won’t pretend to get married like Kaylee did
to him.
Okay, DaddY?
Will you help me get my costume
so I can be a Knight this year?
No, Daddy, I don’t want to be a Princess.
That’s silly,
who wants to be a froufy, pink,
wimp? Plus, all those kissing scenes? Blech!
What?
I mean, Princesses are always in those movie scenes,
you know what I mean?
You know what I mean, Daddy? It’s just ‘cause
they always are- it’s part of bein’ a Princess.
It’s not like I was just thinking
of those yucky kissing parts from movies by myself anyway.
I wasn’t...
I KNOW they’re married in those scenes Daddy! Uhghhh,
but it’s still... It’s just... ach, I don’t know!
I don’t like them.
No, I don’t like them.
Dad, I want to be a Knight again this year.
I studied Joan of Arc,
remember
that project I did in fourth grade
you helped me on?
She was really cool, remember?
She did a lot of cool stuff...
It’s too bad she died though.
Dad, I still want to be a Knight-
I tried the Princess thing out
this year and
I don’t know...
just doesn’t seem right. Plus, the Prince
isn’t acting how he’s supposed to be-
I told him a lot of things but he’s not
reacting right. It doesn’t seem right
being a Princess like this, Dad.
Shouldn’t the Prince be chasing
after the Princess,
and not the other way around?
Or is this a special
case, Dad?
I don’t know, Dad.
I’m confused.
Dad, the Prince left me. I mean,
I told him he could go- I said before
that it didn’t feel right- so I told him
to go. But he told me before
he went that he’d always be right here...
but Dad,
there he is with another Princess and is that
even allowed?
Shouldn’t a Prince be allowed only
to go after one Princess?
And shouldn’t a Princess only receive one Prince?
I don’t know, Dad, but I think
I’m going back to being a Knight.
I’m better at pretending
I have a brave heart
anyway.
Dad, Dad, Dad, Daddy, DaddY!
I’m feeling pretty sad. I don’t feel
like a courageous Knight, nor a beautiful
Princess. I can’t keep on and pretend.
I’m a Princess trapped in armor- armor
that doesn’t even shine. Dad,
I’m leaving it to you to choose now,
‘cause I made a mistake and it sticks
like a thorn in my knee.
Dad, can you get it out please?
Like you did by the river when I was seven?
Dad, I said I’m leaving it to you.
But Dad...
It’s going to take some strongentle,
Prince of a Knight
with some dazzling armor to
sweep
who I am
off these feet.
