My Not-So-Perfect-Heart
It beat like a drum
Low, echo
A continuous thing
It was okay
I was okay.
Then you came along
And changed everything
My heart beat faster
Speedy and exhilarated
Something rare
It was perfect
I opened my heart to you
You opened your heart to me
I had your heart
You had mine
Everything was perfect
Then you decided you wanted your back
You took it right out of my hands
Where I kept it safe
But here’s the thing
You forgot to give mine back.
In time you did
But it wasn’t the same
My perfect heart was ruined
Instead of it beating fast
It beat slow, like a hum
Instead of it colorful
And happy
It was now black and blue
From you playing around with it
And it wasn’t happy.
It was painfully sad
Then you walked away.
So now I’m left without you
And in it’s place a
Not-so-perfect heart
