Like Mother, Like Daughter
Look down at my watch
Sixty minutes have passed
Time to go
I take my daughter’s hand
And lead her away from the crowd
She sadly, stubbornly stares up at me
Just a little longer?
I was the same way years ago
When I was only small
My mother and I would come here
To the pond in Central Park
When the air was crisp as a fresh picked apple
It was my sweet serenity,
My home away from home
The sound of scissors cutting paper when blades hit ice
Snow like a blanket of fleece as far as the eye can see
Laughter, joy, happiness
I could have stayed there forever
But sixty minutes was all she allowed
For that was not enough!
I begged for longer, even just a little
Disappointment alwaysfollowed me home
I release my grip
And stand facing the crowd
Her big, beautiful, blue eyes soften
Oh, why not?
Look up at the sky
How quickly the minutes pass!
Time to skate
