Heartbeat
Thump, thump, thump, thump;
Can you hear it thrive?
That ever-beating rhythm,
The drum that screams “alive.”
That beat has learned and loved
It’s raced with shiny cars.
It has danced along the seashore
And flown above the stars.
But the beat is growing weaker;
Weaker every day.
Until it cannot feel
And has nothing left to say.
That heartbeat’s gone away now,
Gone to a stronger place.
Gone to a shining heaven;
It’s looking at God’s face.
But the beat’s not far away,
You can feel it in the air.
The rhythm lives inside of us,
Present everywhere.
