“Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you. Love me and I may be forced to love you.” -William Arthur Ward

Ocean breeze hovering around me,
I sit still on the grainy rough ground,
A new home, different from the Waters,
Waiting,
Waiting,
I watch and continue to wait.
People walk by, and I do not understand
What point there is to talk, to talk, to communicate.
There is too much noise.
Waiting,
Waiting,
Until she picks me up.
She tells me her story, her life, her troubles,
And I feel I have finally found my purpose,
Listening,
Listening,
Taking her sorrows and keeping them away,
Her peaceful ally and a best friend forever.
Then she whispers a most dangerous secret,
And I feel near alive,
Knowing she trusts me so much.
Then she casts me off.
A pull back, with
Too much force,
I fly
Go back from where I came.
Crying,
Crying,
Was I that useless?
You put your faith in me, then threw me away,
Used me,
Made me feel different,
All for yourself.
I listened to you without want,
Patient, and Loving.
And you still threw me away.
But at least I am home.
Thinking,
Thinking,
The Waters go where they will, and I drift with them.
Soon I am carefully left
On sands anew.
Waiting,
Waiting.
Waiting for you to send me home again.
