Veren In Jou Haar
There's a hole in my heart that keeps me from sleep
And a light in my soul that guides through the sea
And a land I can't remember that was always my home
With ghosts in the flesh that I call my own.
And the night sure is long when the fun stays the same,
Until it’s worn out its welcome and burdened my name.
Though I've slept through the thunder that's shaken my dreams
My once closed eyes now tear at the seams
To find a light in the shadows, a star I can feel
Where my spirit is rattled and I accept what is real.
Oh, I saw you dancing there
With stars in your eyes,
And feathers in your hair.
And the orchard around us flourished and bloomed
And the fruit we were given
Was promised before the womb.
There are dreams of a tower built with unending wealth
And a portrait of me not portraying myself,
With a crown nailed to my head that I hammered inside
On a throne made of nothing but the darkness I hide.
And I whispered for angels, I begged on my knees
To forgive my indulgence in all that's not me.
For the pleasure I'm chasing has chased me away,
While that which I am running from, has taken its stay.
And I saw them singing there,
With trumpets in their mouths
And feathers in their hair.
And I saw you, dear, flourish and bloom
Like a lily in the spring
Under the light of the moon.
There's a voice in my soul that keeps me from sleep
And a pleasure that comes whenever I weep.
Like gifts from the storm clouds that only I've seen
With the clock of my heartbeat stuck on 10:14.
As the years fade away, somehow, so do I
To the hopeless surrender expected from life.
But there's a call in the wind that has taken my chest
To know that when the sun again rises, I'll have given my best.
I've buried my excuses in the hole I dug for my flesh
Because the light in your eyes is all I have left.
And I saw us, dear, standing there
Wrapped in a warm embrace
With feathers in our hair.
And the orchards around us flourished and bloomed
And the fruit we were given
Was promised before the womb.
