Anchors Away
We saw this day coming
The departure for a new chapter
Foreseen since birth, the time has come
Mom smiled with tears of joy
Watching her 3-year-old son
With blonde hair
And bugging brown eyes
Sway in that cap and gown
Up the stairs, to shake the man’s hand
Receive his diploma and say goodbye to his home
Those same tears of joy took a new turn
Mom wept over the pictures
Time has flown by and slipped away
College, adulthood, and independence
Replace batman, preschool, and playtime
Her 3-year-old son toddles to his pick up truck
He waves goodbye, tears hidden by shades
Anchors away, letting go.
