USA - Veterans
What does the acronym USA stand for?
United States of America.
United.
This country was born on the grounds of freedom.
Sure there were bloody battles fought to get it,
but it still ended in this country being born.
You may think, “I already know this stuff”
And you probably do,
but the real question is, what don't you know?
Did you know that Colonists didn't want to separate from Britain?
That they actually tried to be peaceful?
The sent over Petitions and Declarations to reason with the King,
but the King just attacked the colonies with violence.
What for you might say?
For not wanting to pay taxes.
You may think that the idea of not paying taxes is ridiculous.
But it wasn't.
Britain was taxing the colonies on:
Tea; the only “clean” source of liquid.
Stamps; used to communicate across the colonies and the ocean.
Every piece of paper they touched, just to name a few.
So what would you do.
Lay back and pay ridiculous taxes,
or start a rebellion.
The colonists risked their lives for the right to be free.
Free from taxes,
Free from British rule
Free to start a new country.
It is because of those colonists that we have our freedom.
And their legacy still lives on today.
In the marines,
army,
navy,
air force,
coast guard,
and all other brave heroes that risk their lives everyday.
It is because of these people that we have our rights and freedoms.
Freedom of religion,
Freedom of the press,
Freedom of speech,
Freedom to assemble,
The right to a fair trial, and
The right to vote
So, be thankful for what you have.
And thank those that have risked their lives to protect you and your families.
And have a moment of silence for those that have died protecting their country.
And when you see a veteran,
Thank him/her for what they have done for you.
So, think about it.
What does the acronym USA mean to you?
