the fever
there's a little invisible girl, that lives a top my skin,
swimming through my arm hair like a forest she's trapped in.
she breathes upon my bruises and she tickles all my scars, she calls my name in
whispers and she pastes my tongue like tar.
some days she makes me beautiful, some days she makes me not,
some days she makes me twist and turn inside this boiling pot.
she wrings out both my lungs and she keeps close to my heart,
her job ends below my throat but inside is where she starts.
she knows all of my secrets but she can't hold all them in,
she throws them out at strangers and makes me pay for sins.
there's a little invisible girl that lives inside my skin,
she counts all of my losses but never lets me win.
