Faded Words, Faded Memories
It tickles at first,
But soon the sensation fades,
And the cheap sweatshirt
Becomes comfortable.
Here, at the tallest peak in Europe,
I’m on top of the world.
White flurries appear
And I pull my sweatshirt tighter around me.
It’s here that I feel at home,
Here and nowhere else.
As I look back on the time,
I feel a homesick tug at my heart.
The words across the front,
Edelweiss, Germany,
Are beginning to fade,
Just like the memories . . .
