Call Me When You're Sober
You try not to swear
You don’t eat meat
You’re a church lady
You don’t drink
You don’t smoke
But you are more plastered
Than anyone I’ve ever known
You stumble around like a fool
Tripping towards some invisible goal
Seen by no one but yourself
Not caring what relationship you destroy
To accomplish your invisible goal
You are blinded by your need
To be right no matter the cost
You are haunted with you past
This cannot be undone
And through your trials
You have burned bridges
That cannot be rebuilt
All for the payout of being right
So I ask you
Is the cost of losing two sons really worth it?
I know your past
I know you made mistakes in your first marriage
I’ve heard it all
And forgiven you
But forgiveness and trust
Are two different bodies
While I have forgiven you
I do not trust you
I will not put my life
In the hands of one whom I do not trust
You take an argument
And twist the facts
To fit your own side of the disagreement
And then begin to believe it yourself
You are a mother to me only when it is convenient
You are bum
A drunk
But not addicted to alcohol
Or some other kind of drink
You are plastered with your own pride
So I only ask one thing of you
Mother dearest
Call me when you’re sober
