My Emma
Emma was my dog
The first one I could remember
Her previous owner beat her
But that made her even more special
Because whenever she did something bad
She would roll on her back as if to say
“Please don’t anything but this”
We have a creek
That she would swim in
She was never afraid of getting wet
And loved playing with us
She was all I could ask for
Because she stuck by us
We would play fetch with her
And she would play in the sandbox with us
I remember the day she was gone
We thought she was at the creek
So we were on our way to my grandparents’
And we saw a shape on the side of the road
Lane yells “Dad look it’s a deer’
And dad says, “That doesn’t look like one”
So we pull over and take a look
And there is Emma lying on her side
We went home and told my mom
I was crying so hard I wasn’t able to go to my Grandparents’
And to this day I can still picture it
Her body there with blood around it
I know its gross but we have to face the facts
And realize that she’s gone
But not for good
Because she lives inside my heart
And will be there forever
