Candles for the Lost Child
Dear child, just close your eyes
The night is closing in, I know
But tonight the stars shine bright
And will guide your way back home.
Empty gazes on the lonely faces
Of those whose memories will hurt the most
And at night the tears spill over
When they think they hear your ghost.
Fading light flickers fast and slow
As candles are placed around the hearts
Of those who ache and mourn and cry
Whose grief comes in stops and starts.
Oh, friends who grieve, dry those eyes
The night is closing in, I know
But see the stars that shine so bright?
They’re guiding your baby back home.
