Courage
When you're sitting at the edge,
feet dangling into the vast unknown
thinking about yesterday
and the beasts beyond that.
The weight on your back
and the ugly scars are just
a taunting reminder of what
you've had to overcome,
and it's only light, and painless.
Realizing how you got
through it since the downfall
is the only thing making
you watch your step
and every turn after.
Being able to stay seated on the edge
while watching the sun rise
indicating yet another beginning,
and giving fear a rain-check,
is the best courage there is.
