America was once the "land of the free",
And the "Home of the brave".
It used to be a place people came to for religious freedom,
And the pursuit of happiness!

But something happened between then and now,
An event or series of events that made us lose something.
Whatever that thing was that kept us free,
It’s gone now.

Finding it would not be like looking for a needle in a haystack,
Because it would be more difficult.
After all, when one looks for a needle in a haystack,
At least one knows what one is looking for.

But that is the problem:
We are sure that we have lost something,
But we aren’t sure what it is that we lost.
And how can you look for something when you don’t know what it is?

Perhaps it is our courage,
Maybe our pride.
It could have been both,
Though all that is for certain is that we are completely and utterly lost.

Oddly enough I was sort of inspired by a comprehensive essay on the PSAT. It was about how the hydroelectric cars today are similar to the Apollo missions back when we were first exploring space. That got me thinking about Kennedy, space exploration, and the idea that maybe some day an idea may be thought up that is purely for the betterment of the human race rather than to have better strategical position than another country, or a fellow employee. I understand that most art is for that simple reason, but inventions haven't been like that for a while. Now car and device companies just make stuff that will be temporarily pleasing to the consumer in order to get more money on a newer version of the same thing. I guess I'm just... erm... having a difficult time coping with the election (of yet another "leader" that is unneeded?) or maybe I'm having trouble coping with the entire human race... (perhaps I should drink a bunch of Mtn Dew and listen to som REM?)
