Demon Child
Breathless,
I’m breathless.
Dark streets
And flickering lights.
Running, racing
Through alleys and walkways.
The cold, damn walls
Closing in around me.
I hear the cries
The yells to stop.
I hold what is dearest to me,
Protect it from the world,
Shield it from the pain,
Comfort its cries of confusion.
They want to take it away,
They fear it,
Fear what it will do.
The sharp red eyes,
The jagged tail.
I am trapped,
An animal cornered.
They call it a demon.
I know what it is.
My dagger eyes pierce into theirs
And I answer with such hatred,
Such rage at their ignorance
That this is more than just a demon.
It is my son.
