Another Day
Another boring day at work.
Walking down the same road,
Alone and unaware of the world.
Standing near the crosswalk wondering
Why I even bother to cross.
She descends from the bus and sits on the bench,
Reading her book in peace.
Relaxing and enjoying the world.
Listening to the white doves sing and watching
Them gather around her feet.
For once I am shaken.
My vision blurred as I try
To get a closer look.
Running across the road with
Horns blaring and people screaming.
She looks up, notices me,
This man, running across the road
Cars swerving to avoid him.
Her gaze wavers to a bus pulling up
And puts the book back down.
I see the bus too but pay no
Attention to it, my mind only focused on the
Beautiful angel sitting on the bench
In front of me, wanting to go closer.
The bus pulls up, and a man steps off.
The man glides gracefully to the bench,
Takes off his jacket and sits down
Next to the woman reading her book.
He smiles as I just stand on this island.
The woman smiles too,
They both lean in and kiss as
My guts turn into terrible knots.
As they stand and walk away. And I
Crumple onto the bench.
