River Side
I've flirted with the idea once
once, when I was weak
to leave behind all that I am
a stone to still hold me
Conscious of the ones who would long
but conscious of what held the rein
countless times I tired so hard
so hard that my heart went lame
I had dawdled by the river side
wary of the cell below
but when I slipped, I held my tongue
so no one would ever known
when icy fingers pulled me down
& the world looked away
It was you who pulled me from the ground
it was you who chose to stay
