September 5th, the day I’ll never forget.
What had happened that ordinary autumn day would stay with me forever.
I lay on the dreary green lawn,
Staring at the smoky clouds above.
I saw a crown, a fish, a monkey, a heart.
He meant the world to me.
My palms lay flat on the grass.
My fingers cringed and I yanked out a handful of grass.
I buried my face in my hands and just wept.
I wept for hours and hours.
I knew mom was watching me.
I knew she sympathized for me,
But nothing could be done.
I looked up to find a tear stream down her pale face.
She turned around and ran back in the house.
I wish I could’ve done something to prevent it.
I turned back around and whispered to the crisp, fresh air,
“I love you, Daddy.”
