Is Laughter the Best Medicine?
Laughter is great, don’t get me wrong.
But no doctor ever told his patient,
“I was going to say chemotherapy,
but instead, listen to this:
One muffin said to the other,
‘gee whiz, it sure is hot in here,’
to which the other replied,
‘Oh my God! A talking muffin!’”
Doesn’t happen.
In fact, laughter is the worst medicine.
Take the case of this man, Steve.
Steve was climbing Machu Picchu
when he sneezed and, subsequently, fell
down more than 100 flights of stairs
until he’d broken every rib he had,
and one of his legs.
Steve’s doctor, after setting his leg,
took a break to tell a joke.
It was funny.
Steve laughed.
It was good.
But it wasn’t.
Steve laughed so hard
that he dislodged all of his ribs,
which punctured both of his lungs,
Killing him.
Steve died.
Steve’s doctor was sued for malpractice
And to this day,
Laughter still isn’t FDA approved.
