When the ice no longer hold me captive
in these ever stretching miles
barren of you
barren of life
and all I feed on
these husks of memories
whisps of ghosts that strangle my heart
poisonous fumes, waiting in the rooms where you kissed my heart,
my soul
but with the birds you flew
away from this waste
this place
so, I will wait
until the gold reclaims the sky

The author's comments:
Recently, my boyfriend flew from North Carolina in order to spend a week with me. This, being the first time that we met since the beginning of our relationship, we had such a perfect time. However, like all good things, they cannot last. Eventually, he had to return to North Carolina, and I am left to wander these halls where we spent so many precious moments.
