Trials and Troubles*
One small child huddles in a corner
Crying head in hands.
Why does he cry? So soft and sad
When happiness still stands?
A black-clad man stands on the edge
Of a tall skyscraper
He's sorrow-struck from hateful words
Written on a paper.
A teenager sits on her bed
Door locked, Knife in hand
All the other girls at school
Tell her how she's bland.
A widow stands at her Love's grave
Tears still flowing on.
She wonders why this had to happen,
Why, he now, is gone.
A man sits lonely at a bar,
With his empty glass.
His tonic is his false escape
To all sorrows bypass.
One small child huddles in a corner,
Crying, now head high.
He puts his eyes to heaven,
And says with a deep sigh:
"I really don't know why I'm here,
or why there's so much pain
I wonder how I can go on
And still. through this, stay sane."
"I want to know why people lie
Through their teeth, so seething
I need to know why, through this trouble,
I'm still living, Breathing."
The answer came quite clear and certain,
Though with voice quite soothing
"It doesn't matter what you've done,
It matters what you're doing"
"What you don't know is for each day,
Your troubles seem to rise,
You have to stay strong, head held high,
Your thoughts and words - keep wise."
All of them, with strength but lingering
Found the will to live.
And they pulled through that very trial,
And now to others,
Strength
They
Give.
