Forgotten Dreams
Where do dreams go when they are forgotten?
Do they pack their bags and leave before you realize they're gone?
Slipping quietly out of your subconscious,
Never to be fulfilled
Or remembered?
Maybe they stay in your mind
Scattered among memories from long ago
Trying to thrive amongst the waste cluttering your head,
Hoping you'll remember them
And return to make them come true.
Perhaps they head out with a bang.
Once they realize you've given up on them they return
Fill you with guilt and shame
As you remember something you once cared so much about.
Then they leave, never to return.
But maybe dreams don't leave.
They live in the back of your mind
Feeding off your emotions, your dignity.
Dragging you down like a ball and chain.
Cutting deeper and deeper into your soul with every breath.
Then, once you realize they're there,
It's too late.
These forgotten and unfulfilled dreams have destroyed you,
Left you empty inside,
Without you even realizing it.
They've taken away your want:
To dream
To live
To be.
