Walking on Air
Standing atop the roof,
Shoes cling desperately to shingles.
The girl’s face being kissed by the Sun,
Lavender hair being caressed by the Wind,
Clouds lazily drifting above,
The Crows call her to the Sky.
Oh how she wanted to be with them!
The cold Ground scolded her for such thoughts.
“Silly girl, don’t you know?
I will just bring you back,
Come down with your sense.
I know what is best for you.”
She didn’t want to go,
But her shoes knew the Ground meant well.
They carried her down to him.
Cold. Familiar. Safety.
But her mind drifted up.
Blue. Vast. Wonder.
Oh how she wanted to be with them!
Her Shoes scolded her for such thoughts.
“Silly girl, don’t you know?
The Ground wants you to stay down,
And doesn’t want you in the Sky,
He knows what is best for you.”
But she wanted to go.
To kiss the sun,
To caress the wind,
To drift on the clouds,
She couldn’t ignore the Crows.
Oh how she wanted to be with them!
The Crows praised her for such thoughts.
“Silly girl, don’t you know?
They can’t hold you down,
Take off your Shoes and ignore the cold Ground.
You know what is best for you.”
She silenced the boisterous land,
Untied herself from her sneakers,
And climbed back onto the roof.
She closed her eyes and stepped into the air,
She soared and the Sky welcomed her.
Oh how she loved to be with them!
