It Started As
It started as
a need
for control
over something.
Regulating
what goes in
and what comes out.
It was
invigorating,
empowering.
It started as
a desire
for beauty
and perfection.
Barbie
became the
role model
and goal.
You wanted to be
gorgeous,
skinny.
It started as
a need for
power.
The ability
to control
one thing
of many.
But then,
it began
to control
you.
And
You
Couldn't
Stop.
It started with
an aching
pain.
Sadness eating
at you from
the inside out.
You were
alone,
scared.
It started with
a fear
of reality.
The looks of
confusion
and sadness
from family.
The pitying
glances from
"friends".
You became
guarded,
masked.
It started with
a nagging
possibility.
Maybe no one
will listen
or care.
Maybe they'll
leave you
in the dust,
to pick yourself up
and dust yourself off,
to face
your demons
on your own.
It ended with
you:
Afraid,
Alone,
Anxious,
And scarred.
Huddled in the
corner of
the prison
in your mind.
