This Fear

Amid a throng of varied people,
Among the rich and poor,
Under the shelter of a cloak,
Beneath the rain, a girl.
Within her head, a vivid dream,
In her heart a song – in vain.
For on her back, the weight of life,
Against her cheek, a tear.
Beyond the hope
Inside her heart
Throughout her soul, is fear.
