Too Early to Tell
Cupped in her palms
like a newly hatched blue jay,
it is too early to tell how long
its delicate frame will reside
before flying away.
More fragile than Waterford crystal,
it hovers on the brink
between complete security and
the fear of falling.
She questions how to nurture it.
Negligence will weaken and
complete adoration will
overpower.
It's shivering and shaking
and hoping and waiting.
Yet untouched by months of
doubt and insecurity,
your trust
sits unblemished
in her trembling hands.
