The Catch
I feel the tug, the pull.
The line flies;
Its zipping sounds breaking the silence.
I jump from my seat and crank,
My hands working fast,
Moving in an incessant circle.
It is strong, a fighter.
I pull my arms back,
Feeling the ache in my shoulders.
I let it run, letting it streak parallel to the shore.
Come on, come on, I think.
Without warning,
I arch back, taking it off guard.
I’ve got it
Now.
I’m winning.
I feel like a winner
As its slippery body lands on the sand,
Flopping and jumping.
After all this time,
It is finally paid off.
