Doctor, Doctor
January 1.
New Year’s Day.
Emergency Call.
“I’m truly sorry to report this news to you.
The cancer has swept through the lungs and began
Crawling up the esophagus as if craving for air.”
It won’t be long?
No.
I understand.
“When they tried to remove part of the lung
In hopes of delaying the growing of the cells,
They were already too late. It spread too quickly.”
No words.
Just nods
And a numb feeling.
“It could range anywhere from a matter of
Days to weeks but that is the best outlook.
By the look of it though, it’s only a matter of days.”
That’s understandable.
Before you leave though,
Can you shed light on the other?
“As it appears, there is no concern at the moment.
The cancer is strictly in the hip bone and under control.
If you notice a difference however, you know what to do.”
Thank you again.
It means a lot for you to come.
We’ll keep in touch.
