A dozen heartbeats
drumming in unison.

Panic takes hold.

Cue the wind instruments,
screams from the far left,
high-pitched, a high C.
repetitive gasps from the right,
heavy breathing,
suffocation.

A steady hum,
crescendo,
a deafening roar.
Cries for help,
no response.

A locked door,
pounding fists,

nails on wood,

A dirty window,
Open it!
a release of air,
hesitation.

The noise grows louder,
the expanse in front,
more inviting.
Its time.
